Dr. Rita Dev is a notable name in the arena of Hindustani Classical Music. A rich vocalist from the famous Banaras Gharana, her repertoire includes both classical and semi-classical genres like Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Holi, Jhoola, Chaiti, Tappa and Bhajan. She is A grade artist of All India Radio, and her performances across the country are documented by Doordarshan and leading television channels. Dr. Rita Dev is Head of Music Department at Agra College, Agra.
Trained under Padma Vibhushan Vidhushi Dr. Girija Devi, the legendary Queen of Thumri for over 25 years, Dr. Rita carved the beautiful style of the Gharana. Dr. Girija Devi bestowed to her the most precious blessing in the Guru-Shishya Parampara – Ganda Bandhan, a very special spiritual ceremony between a Guru and the disciple, showing trust and confidence of Guru to the disciple to take forward the beautiful legacy of Puravang Gayaki.
Recipient of prestigious awards including Pt. Omkarnath Thakur Award, Sangeet Ratna, Swara Ratna, Dr. Rita has performed in all major and popular music festival of India namely, Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav Pune, Tansen Samaroh Gwalior, Baba Allaudin Khan Sangeet Sammelen Maihar, Abdul Karim Khan Music Festival Miraj, Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra Kolkata among others.
